Awash with Gratitude
Reflection No. 8 from Wide-Eyed Wonder
I awoke to an ominous sky, as though a show was about to begin.
The clouds and the sun struggled for power in the decision of who would be first on stage.
Slowly the clouds won out and the sky grew darker.
The trees stood still in hushed silence as though holding their breath in anticipation.
And then, the curtains parted, and an almost imperceptible mist began its descent.
My senses came alive as I felt the electrical energy on my skin.
The air was alive with raucous thunder.
Lightning streaked through the sky with naked abandonment!
And as the rain fell with more purpose
The earth released its rich aromas.
A sensory buffet unlike any other!
And when the show was over
The clapping in my heart would not stop.
I rushed outside in my nightclothes like a child in search of puddles.
I had to check the rain gauge to be certain this experience was true.
The one-inch gauge was full to overflowing – as was my heart.
Like the tree branches bending with the weight of the rain,
My soul is refreshed, and I bend low in gratitude.
